Australian Systematic Botany Society National Conference (ASBS 2008)
Location: University of Adelaide, SA
Dates: September 28 - October 04, 2008
The South Australian State Herbarium invites you to participate in this broad botanical event that will bring to Adelaide researchers from all corners of the plant (and fungi) world. We would like to include a full range of algal participation in this conference (i.e. a dedicated phycological section with distinguish speakers, contributed talks, workshops, posters, etc). We however have discussed already the desirability of a theme on “Systematics of poorly known groups” reflecting some of the workers’ purely taxonomic approach to their work. Nevertheless any other ideas are extremely welcome (e.g. freshwater and/or marine phytoplankton systematics, molecular systematics, classification at higher levels of biological organization, taxonomical challenges in turf-forming algae, phylogeography, phylogenetic theory, etc.). If you can joining us and contribute to make this a great meeting, please send us an email to fred.gurgel@adelaide.edu.au.

Women Evolving Biological Sciences Symposium
Dates: October 19-22, 2008
THis three-day symposium is aimed at addressing the retention of female scientists and issues related to the transition of women from early career stages to tenure track positions and leadership roles in academic and research settings. The inaugural WEBS symposium in October 2007 was a huge success, and we anticipate increased interest and continued success this year. Applications for WEBS 2008 are due April 15, 2008.
The Fifth Asian Pacific Phycological Forum
